on August 2, Henry despatched letters patent to Savary, who had not yet deserted, together with all his bailiffs, and other officers, in which he declared that because of the great expense incurred by his faithful citizens of Bordeaux he concedes to them for four years all royal revenues in their city. This grant was indeed cancelled; but the succeeding entries make it clear that it was replaced by a direct payment of money. (Marsh ref.-Shirley, Royal Letters I, 231.)
It seems to me that the calendarist is stating William Brewer's name is cancelled (struck out), NOT the grant.
Re 1228 entry - End of grant - request re account to Seneschal until further order (Coulson)
