In 1315 Bruce forces took Dundalk and £50 was sent by the government for the repair of its defences (NHI II 1986 - Lydon 286). (Thomas)
So terrible was the destruction that the Dublin government took the unprecedented step of awarding nearly £50 to the community to help repair the vill 'recently robbed and burned by the Scots', (P.R.O., E. 101/237/4). (Cosgrove)
