Southampton was given a grant of murage dated 18/3/1326.

Grant for seven years to the burgesses of Southampton, on their petition shewing that by the king's command have begun to make the quay and wall of that town, and have expended great charges over these, but they are not able of themselves to complete the work, of a custom of 1d. on every pound's worth of goods brought by land or water within the liberty of the town, or taken out of the town, 1/2d. on 10s. worth, and 1/4d. on 5s. worth.
