Northampton was given a grant of murage dated 13/2/1549.

In the Dyning Chamber besydes the Starre Chamber.
Thursday, the xiijth of February, 1549.
Archebishop of Cantorbury; Lord Chuncellour; Lord Thresaurer; Marques Dorset; Bishop of Ely; Mr. Comptroler; Mr. Secretary Wotton; Justice Mountague; Sir John Baker.
Letters to the Chauncellour of thaugmentacions for to give order for vc lode of stone out of the steple of St. Edmundes in Northampton, and of somuche as shall lack of the said vc loodes there out of the Graunge of St. Andrew's there, to be delyvered to the Mayor and inhabitauntes of Northampton of Northampton (sic) for reparacion of their towne walles and west bridge there.
