Owain Glynd r's attack on Brecon in 1404 ensured their upkeep after that date - Lloyd, Owen Glendower, 63-4, In the same year the bailiff of Brecon was authorised to spend 100 marks on fortifying the gates, walls and ditches of the town (P.R.O., D.L., 42/15 f. 179v; King's Works, ii, 575). In 1404 the bailiff of Brecon was authorised to spend 100 marks on fortifying the gates, walls and ditches of the town, and four years later he was given an annuity as a reward for his 'great labour and perils' during the rebellion.
