Tallaght (Tamelag') was given a grant of murage dated 1/4/1311.

This was in the form of:-

De muragio pro villa de Tamelagh.
R' Ballivis & probis homnibus de Tamelag' salutem Sciatis quod concessimus vobis in subsidium ville vostre praedicte claudend quod a festo proximo futur' per triennium sequens compl' capiatis in eadem villa consuet' subscriptas et totum postea de communi forma T' ut supra primo die April'.
{CPI is a selective calendar but above entry to this was the grant of murage to Limerick "Teste J' Wogan apud Lymer' primo April anno r' n' iiiito."}

Comments
This large ditch appears to be part of the boundary defences of the medieval Borough of Tallaght, for which Tallaght received a grant in 1311 of the right to collect murage for three years (J. Bradley, Urban Arch. Survey).
