Great Yarmouth was given a grant of murage dated 18/3/1463.

Grant to the men, burgesses and provost the borough of Great Yarmouth of 50 marks yearly for 10 years from Michaelmas last from the fee farm of the town for the repair and security of the port; as the town is charged with the yearly sum of 60l. from the fee farm of the same and the farm of a place in the high sea near the entrance of the port called 'Kirkelerode' and also with 100l. of each tenth and fifteenth, but the profits of the fishery have been seized and retained by subjects of the king and foreigners and the traffic in merchandise has diminished owing to the insecurity of the port to such an extent that they will otherwise have to leave the town.
