Les Catieaux has been described as a probable Timber Castle.

There are earthwork remains.

This site is a archaeological monument protected by law.

Description

Popular refuge; ringwork in the middle of a large enclosure; both much damaged. Mentioned 1406. (King 1983)

Earthwork interpreted as defensive site. Suggestions that the site may be Roman but the trapezoidal shape is more indicative of a Viking period camp or early medieval site. Long assumed to be the fortified area or 'villa' referred to by Nino in 1406. (Schedule of sites of archaeological importance 2008)

Defensive earthworks. Most likely medieval, 13th century. Surveyed in 1899 and excavated in 1934. (States of Jersey HER)
