inhabitants and people of the islands of Guernsey, Sark and Alderney; people and commonalty of the island of Jersey (islands of Guernesey, Serk, and Aureney; people and commonalty of the island of Jeresey) was granted an exemption from murage dated 8/7/1394.

Confirmation to the people and commonalty of the island of Jeresey of letters patent dated 8 July, 18 Richard II. granting that they shall be quit of all tolls, exactions and customs in all cities, towns, markets and ports within the realm of England in the same manner as the king's subjects of that realm; and grant to them in addition, in consideration of the perils they have sustained for the safety of the island and the reduction of the king's castle of Mount Orgill, that they shall be as quit in all cities, boroughs, market towns and other towns, ports and places within the realm of England and all lands and islands of tbe king of all tolls, customs, subsidies, pontages, pavages, murages, carriages, fossages and other moneys payable to the king, as they or their predecessors ever were. Inspeximus and confirmation of letters patent dated 28 January, 8 Edw. IV., reciting letters patent dated 8 July, 18 Ric. II., by which the inhabitants and people of the islands of Guernesey, Serk, and Aureney are granted exemption from tolls, customs, subsidies, pontage, pavage, murage, carriage, fossage, and other monies due to the Crown, in consequences of the constancy and manly conduct they have exhibited towards the king's progenitors, and the great perils and losses they have sustained in saving the said islands, and reducing the castle of Mount Orgil: all liberties granted by former kings to their ancestors are fully confirmed to them. Inspeximus and confirmation of letters patent of 26 Feb. 1 Henry VIII. confirming Patent of 10 Feb. 1 Henry VII. confirming Patent (recited) 28 Jan. 8 Edward IV. (Calendar, 1467-1477, p. 124) to the people and commonalty of the Isle of Jersey and of the Isles of Guernesey, Serke and Aureney.
And in consideration of their defence of the castle of Mount Orgyll:
Grant to the said peoples and commonalties that they and their successors shall be free in England and throughout the king's lands from customs, subsidies, pontage, pavage, murage, carriage, fossage and other dues as they or their ancestors have ever been; also that they may enjoy all rights, liberties and franchises within their islands as their ancestors did.

Confirmation of the above privilege under penalty of compensation to be made by those who infringe it.
Provided that nothing hereby granted be to the king's prejudice.
