Wording
Grant to the prior and brethren of the hospital of St. John Baptist, Ludlow, in consideration of the depredations that they have suffered from certain rebels in the company of Henry VI. and for the relief of the hospital, that they shall hold their lands and possessions freely and peacefully as did their predecessors with all liberties, franchises, customs and acquittances, that they shall have view of frank-pledge and all that pertains to it in their manors of Ludlowe, Ludford, Rook, Hawkehath and Overton, that they shall be quit of any tenth or other quota granted by the clergy of the realm or levied by the pope or the king, that they and their men and tenants shall be quit of all suits, pleas, issues, fines and amercements of counties, hundreds, wapentakes, views of frank-pledge and other courts and from all toll, tallage, picage, pontage, murage, summage, cheminage, carriage, hidage, works of royal castles, towers and houses and repair and building of bridges, that they shall have the goods and chattels of their men and tenants forfeited for any offence, that they may place themselves in seisin and possess any fee forfeited by any of their tenants, notwithstanding that the king is accustomed to possess the fees of condemned men and fugitives for a year and a day, and that if any of them or their men and tenants be amerced in any court the fines and amercements shall be delivered to them, saving the royal power justice of life and limb.
