Appointment, during pleasure, of Maurice de Berkele to be keeper of the town of Gloucester, and to be a conservator of the peace for that town.

Writ of aid for him directed to the bailiffs, good men and entire commonalty of the town of Gloucester. Whenever requisitioned by him on that behalf, they are to put in repair the wall and dyke of the town. By K., on the information of the earl of Pembroke.

The motive was quite possibly no more than to assert the royal supervision of city privileges they would be responsible for maintaining the walls by making them do it to the keeper's orders (Coulson)
