New Ross was given a grant of murage dated 20/5/1400.

20 May. 1400 New Ross
By letters patent dated 24 Nov. 15 Ric. II, that K. granted to the sovereign, bailiffs and commons of the town of New Ross that they might receive certain customs for 20 years for the purpose of enclosing and paving the town and for its defence against the Irish. At their petition , the K. has pardoned them for continuing to receive 2d from the said customs until now without licence. GRANT to them of the same customs for a term of 20 years from now.

Rex ille concess'it eis, erga dictem vill' claudend' et paviand', civitas custumas ad fin' 20 an', ii denarios de dictis custumis hujucusq' perceperint sine lic'; et concessit eis consuetud' praed' habend' usq' ad fin' 20 an' exnunc. Rosse, 20 Maii.- per pet' per loc' ten' indors' et sig' suo sign'.

'Henry IV. also extended the murage and pavage grant of Richard II. by charter dated 1 Henry IV. 20th May, 1 Hen. IV. (Rot. Pat. 1 Hen. IV. a. 98.) to 20 years from that date,' (MCI)
The murage became vested by default and was still being collected in 1835.
