Percipimus tibi quod assigns probis homnibus nostris Hereford' per visum forestariorum et viridariorum in haia nostra Hereford' aliqua locum qui minus sit ad nocuementum praedicte haie et propinquior, et aptior ville nostre Hereford' de subbosco, et quod facias eis habere grossum mairemium ad duas portas faciendum, provideas etc. quod hac ita capiantur quod non verdantur nc amoveantur nc in usus alicus cedant nisi ad villam claudendam, et ad portas faciendas pro visum proborum hominum. Teste me ipso apud Odiham, xvj. die Apr.

Two of the gates were still under construction in 1216, when the citizens were given large timbers from the king's forest of la Haye to make two gates (Turner)
