Pardon to the burgesses of Southampton for their great expenses in fortifying that town and the loss to the realm in case of its destruction, of the yearly farm due from them at the Exchequer for two years from the present date, and of all arrears from the time of the late king's death, in order that in future they may the more gladly inhabit and fortify it against hostile attack.
