Bristol was given a grant of murage dated 5/2/1446.

Ratification to Nicholas Hille, the mayor, and the commonalty of Bristol of letters patent, dated 29 May, 17 Henry VI, granting to them murage for a term of twenty years; and pardon to them of all accounts, debts, actions and demands, and grant to them of murage for sixty years beyond the said term. By p.s. etc. and for 20s. paid in the hanaper.
