Shrewsbury was given a grant of murage dated 13/11/1431.

This was in the form of:-

Grant to the bailiffs and burgesses of Shrewsbury, which town, being near Wales, requires to be very well fortified to resist the king's enemies, of murage for three years, to be applied under the survey of the abbot of the place.

Granted by Henry VI. (Regnal year 10). Granted at Westminster.
