Crickhowel (Crukhowel) was given a grant of murage dated 26/11/1281.

This was in the form of:-

Wording
Grant to the bailiffs, burgesses, and other men of Crukhowel of murage, for forty years, on goods brought to the town for sale, viz.:—
On every horse-load (summa) of corn - 1/2d.
On every horse, mare, ox, and cow sold (vend') - 1/2d.
On every hide of horse, mare, ox, and cow, fresh, salt, or tanned - 1/4d.
On every cart laden with salt meat - 11/2d.
On every five bacon hogs sold - 1/2d.
On every ten small hogs sold - 1/2d.
On every fresh salmon sold - 1/4d.
On every dozen shad sold - 1/2d.
On every lamprey before Easter - 1/2d.
On every ten sheep, goats, or swine - 1d.
On every hundred (centena) of woolfells, skins of goats, stags, hinds, bucks, and does - 1/2d.
On every hundred of skins of lambs, kids, hares, rabbits, foxes, cats and squirrels - 1/2d.
On every cart-load of salt - 1d.
On every horse-load (summagio) of salt sold, per week - 1/4d.
On every horse-load of cloth sold - 1/2d.
On every entire cloth sold - 1/2d.
On every hundred of linen web, canvas, and Irish cloth - 1d.
On every cloth of silk with gold, samite, "diarpe" and baudekyn - 1/2d.
De quolibet panno de serico sine auro et chef de cendallo
afforc' - 1/4d.
On every tun of wine and ashes (cinerum) - 11/2d.
On every horse-load of ashes - 1/2d.
On every horse-load of honey - 1d.
On every tun of honey - 3d.
On every sack of wool - 4d.
On every truss of cloth brought by cart - 3d.
On every horse-load of cloth or divers other small articles - 1/2d.
On every cart-load of iron - 1d.
On every cart-load of lead - 2d.
On every horse-load of tan, per week - 1/4d.
On goods sold by weight (de averio de pondere), that is, on every hundred (centena) - 1d.
On every wey (peisa) of tallow (cepi) and grease - 1d.
On every quarter of woad - 2d.
On every hundred of alum and copperas - 1/2d.
On every two thousand of onions - 1/4d.
On every horse-load of garlic - 1/2d.
On every thousand of herrings - 1/2d.
On every hundred of boards - 1/2d.
On every millstone - 1/2d.
On every hundred of faggots - 1/4d.
On every quarter of salt - 1/4d.
On every wey of cheese and butter - 1/2d.
On every thousand of roof-nails (clavorum ad cumidum domus) - 1/4d.
On every hundred of horse-shoes and cart-clouts (clutorum ad carectam) - 1/2d.
On every quarter of tan - 1/2d.
On every two thousand of all kinds of nails, except cart-clouts and roof-nails - 1/4d.
On every truss of all kinds of merchandise exceeding the value of two shillings - 1/4d.
On every brewing caldron - 1d.

CRICKHOWELL 3217 2184. Borough 26 Nov 1281. On 26 Nov 1281, the burgesses and bailiffs of the town of Crickhowell received a murage grant. Crickhowell went into decline after the castle was attacked in 1403 (CPR, 1281-92, p. 2; Soulsby, p. 119). Market town c.1600 (Everitt, p. 472). See also Soulsby, pp. 119-20.
