Cambridge was given a grant of murage dated 29/1/1269.

This was in the form of:-

Jan. 29. Westminster.
Allocate to Amaury Peche, formerly sheriff of Cambridge and Huntingdon, 1m. delivered to the Friars Minor of Cambridge for timber of theirs which he took at Cambridge for the amendment and enclosure of the town when the king was last there; also 10s. delivered to William de Sancto Leodegario of the king's gift for his expenses.

Granted by Henry III. (Regnal year 53). Granted at Westminster.

Comments
Rather indirect aid but suggestive of the responsiveness of royal government. The king was in Cambridge in his 51st year so repayment to Peche took at least 2 years.
