Comments
It was decided to defend the town with a circuit of stone walls linked to the castle, and in 1280 alone nearly £200 was spent towards that end (Soulsby-ref. HKW)
the year 1280 saw the expenditure of £199 1s. 7 d. on the building of the town wall (HKW)
The wall was clearly funded by the Crown but much of the accounts will be hidden within the Castle building accounts.
