It seems Edward II. granted to this, as to the other corporation, a sum of money for the repair of their walls and towers, and their defence against the Scots and other enemies, a writ of the 16 Edward II. being extant, (Rot. Mem. 16, 17 Edw. II. m. 12, d.) commanding the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to make a certain allowance in the account. (MCI)
