Comments
Henry VII., in the ninth year of his reign, confirmed the charters of Henry IV. and Henry VI. (Morrin)
The 1404 is the earliest known grant for Athboy; it was renewed in 1426 or 1446 (date is ambiguous) and in 1494 (CPCR 1597, 452-4) (Thomas)
The suggestion, by Thomas, that the grant was renewed in 1494 is not really supported by Morrin. Murage was being collected (on through traffic) in 1508 after the end of the 60 year grant of 1446 (The 1426 date is clearly a typo) but it is likely this long grant became perpetual by default rather than royal intent, although the confirmation of the borough privileges of Henry IV would have provided implicit support for this borough assumption.
