To Hugh le Despenser, the younger, keeper of the castle, town, and barton of Bristol, or to him who supplies his place. Order to cause the houses, gates, bridges, walls, towers, engines, mills, pools, and buildings within the castle, town, and barton to be repaired with all speed by the view and testimony of Roger atte Mille and Edward the carpenter, and to cause the castle aforesaid to be provided with victuals, arms, men, and other necessaries by the view and testimony of Roger and Edward, out of the ferm of the castle. Quite how much was spent on Bristol town walls by Hugh, on the bases of this order, will remain unknown but unlikely to be a great deal if any.
