There is associated evidence for murage, dated 1287, concerning bailiffs of Newcastle upon Tyne (a complaint by Prior of Tynemouth).

Wording
Petitioners: Prior of Tynemouth.
Addressees: King and council.
Places mentioned: Tynemouth, Northumberland; Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland; River Tyne.
Other people mentioned: John Fitz Roger, Bailiff of Newcastle upon Tyne; Thomas de Carduyl (Carlisle), Bailiff of Newcastle upon Tyne; Hugh de Carduyl (Carlisle), Bailiff of Newcastle upon Tyne; Richard Fitz Roger, Bailiff of Newcastle upon Tyne; John de Blakedon, Bailiff of Newcastle upon Tyne; Hugh de Brok; {Anthony Bek}, Bishop of Durham.
Nature of request: The Prior of Tynemouth complains that certain bailiffs of Newcastle upon Tyne are disturbing him for buying necessities for his house in the port of the Tyne, and are distraining him and his men for murage and customs, contrary to his franchise. He has sued against them in Common Pleas, and has sued for an inquisition on this, but has not been able to have one. He asks that the inquisition might pass according to law, with a local jury.
Endorsement: This petition was passed to H. de Brok by the Bishop of Durham. He is to sue in Chancery. He is to have a writ drawn up that they are to proceed.

The appointed commissoners or auditors were Hugh de Brok; {Anthony Bek}, Bishop of Durham.
