Rex ballivis suis Novi Castri super Tynam, salutem. Quia accepimus per inquisicionem, quam per vos fieri fecimus, quod dampna et gravamina, que Hugo de Merchingeleye incurrit de mesuagiis et terris suis in villa Novi Castri racione levacionis muri circumcingentis villam vestram predictam racionabiliter estimantur ad valorem viginti et unius librarum, duorum solidorum et quatuor denariorum, dum tamen terra illa nobis et vobis ad securitatem ville predicte remaneat imperpetuum, nos pro remissione et quietumclamancia quas idem Hugo nobis et vobis fecit de terra predicta quantum ad ipsum pertinet, concessimus ei viginti et unam libras, duos solidos et quatuor denarios quos collegistis de muragio ejusdem ville. Et ideo vobis mandamus quod pecuniam predictam, de predictis denariis pro venientibus de predicto muragio, prefato Hugoni habere faciatis pro remissione et quietaclamacione terre supradicte, permittentes quod idem Hugo de maeremio et petra domorum predictarum commodum suum facere (sic) prout sibi magis viderit expedire. Et hoc nullo modo omittatis. Mandavimus enim vicecomiti nostro Northumbr' quod, nisi hoc ad mandatum nostrum feceritis, ipse id fieri faciat, et, si necesse fuerit, sufficiens posse comitatus sui ad hoc faciendum secum assumat; et nichilominus vos per terras et bona vestra forinseca ad hoc facienda distringat. Writ of aid to the bailiffs and burgesses of Newcastle upon Tyne in favour of Hugh son of Thomas de Mechingel', Nicholas le Escot and Thomas son of Henry de Carliolo, deputed by the king to be collectors of the said murage so that the money collected be applied in the walling of their town, saving reasonable expenses of the collectors, as also that they render account thereof before William de Kirketon and William de Lilleburn, whom the king has appointed to be auditors of the said account and to certify him fully thereof.
Mandate to the said auditors to receive the said account from year to year, provided that they have the said expenses.

Above the entry is written post inf'. In the margin three words have been erased which appear to be post reg' inf'. Beside the erasure are two vertical strokes. It is suggested that inf' may stand for infirmitation and indicate a recurrence of the King's illness.
