Gravett was at the Royal Armouries and his view of castles seems to be they were large immovable suits of armor. He does not seem to be aware of the numerous and generally much more significant administrative and residential functions of castles not does he him seem to have read any of the scholarship of the last 30-40 years, he certainly does not reference such texts.
